At VidaSpace, ambitious design and innovation have always been central to who we are. Standing still has never really suited us, progress is part of our DNA. So, when it came to launching ALT™ by VidaSpace, we knew we wanted to do something BIG.
With ALT™, our foundations expand – a step beyond timber and into a new generation of decorative panels. The intention was never simply to enter the category, but to reshape it. To introduce fresh thinking and a renewed sense of creative possibility to a space already well established in New Zealand.
The ALT™ tagline is Challenge the Ordinary, so from concept to strategy and execution, every detail was intentional. Every decision asked the same question: how can we be extraordinary? From this musing came an idea: to bring ALT™ to life through a showroom activation celebrating art, scale, and form.
First, scale; We took inspiration from ‘Rubber Duck’ by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman.
Rubber Duck is a series of several giant floating sculptures of yellow rubber ducks, which have appeared in many cities around the world and landed in Auckland, New Zealand in 2011.
Describing the effect of his work on the public, Hofman reflected: “My sculptures cause commotion, surprise, and make you smile. They give people a break from their daily routine. Passersby stop in front of them, get off their bikes, and start chatting with other onlookers. People are socializing again.”
We too wanted to surprise, to excite and delight, and to present something unexpected.

Second, form; we played with the idea of monumental monolithic forms grounded within New Zealand’s iconic landscapes – perched on cliff edges, emerging from streams, rooted in forests, and stretching along the coastline.
Our friend Jay Hall at New Wave Collective, an expert in AI-generated content, has crafted remarkable work for a number of industry partners. When we shared the concept with him, he was immediately inspired and translated it into striking visuals that allowed us to delve deeper.

We set out to explore forms that would challenge the conventional possibilities of decorative panels and reveal their sculptural potential. Curves were an obvious starting point – but how tight, how fluid, how unexpected could they become? How could HPL sheets be manipulated until they were almost unrecognisable from their original state? This stage of the process was particularly memorable: we drew inspiration from extraordinary forms around the world while uncovering the full capabilities of the material.
At this stage we partnered with Scott Fitzsimons, whose multi-disciplinary background in industrial and furniture design equips him to create objects and spaces that are both original and meaningful. Together we developed the sculptural forms, with Scott’s expertise guiding what could truly work at scale – imagining 5-metre-tall monoliths rising dramatically within our showroom.
We’re fortunate that our flagship Auckland Showroom, nestled in Parnell’s warehouse district and housed in a former industrial factory, has the soaring ceilings to bring these colossal structures to life.

Once the forms were finalised and Scott had produced renderings of the monoliths in our space, it was time to bring on a manufacturing partner. Dimension Shopfitters proved to be the perfect team. From first contact through to installation, they were absolutely incredible. No challenge was too ambitious, no detail too demanding. We truly had the dream team to bring this to life.
In December 2025, we covered the entire front of our showroom to conceal what we were shaping into existence inside.

On 19th February 2026, ALT™ was finally unveiled, revealing how innovative design and precise engineering can unlock entirely new possibilities.
“In the VidaSpace showroom, the possibilities of the collection unfold through a series of striking sculptural displays – an immersive environment that serves as a catalyst for material exploration and design inspiration.” – HOME Magazine

Towering sculptural forms, some described as “gravity-defying,” now stand proud and permanent in our Auckland Showroom – a testament to what happens when bold imagination meets engineering, material mastery, and craftsmanship. ALT™ is more than a collection; it’s an invitation to rethink, explore, and reimagine the spaces we inhabit. Each piece challenges expectations, blurs the line between art and architecture, and transforms the way we experience form, scale, and structure. ALT™ doesn’t just occupy space – it activates it.
