UV oiled timber floors offer a beautifully natural look and tactile feel, celebrating the authentic character of wood. While durable, these surfaces rely on regular maintenance to protect against dirt, wear, and moisture keeping them looking rich and resilient for years to come.
With the right routine and care products, maintaining UV oiled timber floors is simple and effective. Consistent cleaning not only preserves their appearance but also replenishes the protective oil layer that keeps the timber sealed and nourished.
At VidaSpace, our WoodClinic floor care range has been designed to make this process effortless, offering purpose-made Wood Floor Soaps, Conditioners, Mop Kits, and Replenishment Kits formulated specifically for UV oiled finishes.
Whether you’re caring for a newly installed floor or maintaining one that’s part of your home’s story, this guide outlines the best way to clean, condition, and restore UV oiled timber floors. With the right care system, your floor will continue to perform beautifully for decades.

Remove dust and debris using a soft-bristle broom, electrostatic mop, or vacuum with a soft brush attachment. Regular dry cleaning prevents abrasive particles from scratching the surface and maintains the natural clarity of the timber.
Clean the floor using a WoodClinic Spray Mop and WoodClinic Oil Soap. Avoid using excessive moisture - the surface should dry within a few minutes of cleaning. Always clean the mop head once it becomes soiled. For larger or commercial spaces, the Kärcher range of heavy-duty mops is recommended for more intensive cleaning.
Use WoodClinic Wood Floor Conditioner to restore sheen and strengthen surface protection. Conditioning helps maintain the elasticity and water resistance of the oil layer. For best results, apply conditioner directly after installation and repeat annually to prolong performance.
Mechanically clean the floor with a vertically rotating brush machine such as a Kärcher
BR 30/4 Scrubber to remove dirt and grime that regular cleaning can’t reach. For best results, have your floor cleaned by a professional using a Bona Power Scrubber.
Note: Avoid steam mops or wet mops, as excessive moisture can damage your floor. Do not use highly alkaline or acidic cleaning products. After a deep clean, a coat of maintenance oil is recommended to restore protection. For natural oil finishes, please contact us for a project-specific cleaning and maintenance programme.

Over time, UV oiled floors may begin to show signs of wear, but the beauty of oiled finishes is that they can be rejuvenated without a full replacement. Whether through deep cleaning, re-oiling, or sanding, the right maintenance approach will restore their original warmth and durability.
If your floor shows light wear or dirt build-up, perform a deep clean followed by an application of maintenance oil such as Rubio or Osmo. This refreshes your floor’s colour, strengthens the oil layer, and enhances the surface sheen.
If your floor shows moderate wear, lightly sand the surface and apply a new coat of hardwax oil (Rubio or Osmo). This restores protection while retaining the tactile natural finish that defines UV oiled floors.
For heavily worn floors, fully sand the surface back to raw timber and reapply your chosen coating system. This process completely renews the surface — and offers the opportunity to change the colour or tone of your timber if desired during redecorating.
Professional Refinishing: We recommend engaging a professional refinishing specialist for any renewal work. Contact the VidaSpace team at hello@vidaspace.co.nz for refinishing experts in your area. Always complete a test area first to ensure proper adhesion.
