"Working in interior design has made this personal renovation incredibly special. I love designing for clients, but reimagining our own family home and bringing the vision to life was such a rewarding experience.
Knowing exactly how our family moves through the space meant we could design with both functionality and beauty in mind. We wanted the home to feel warm, inviting and cohesive, creating a natural flow from one space to the next.
The palette was grounded in earthy tones of terracotta, mushroom and moss, paired with warm oak throughout. VidaSpace's Kova TRUNK flooring was the perfect choice to anchor the home and bring warmth underfoot. I wanted that same warmth to continue into the kitchen, and the Raw Cotton cabinetry was the ideal finish to achieve this.
Rowson Kitchens did a beautiful job creating a kitchen that feels both highly functional and fluid – something that was especially important given our smaller footprint. One of our braver design decisions was continuing the tiled splashback onto the kitchen island, and we're so pleased we went for it. The Rope Surfaces mosaic tiles from Company of Tiles create a clean, seamless look while adding texture and a unique point of difference. For practicality, stainless steel benchtops felt like the perfect balance of durability and timeless style for everyday family living.
My favourite addition to the space is the cosy dining nook. The custom bench seat flows effortlessly from the kitchen into the adjoining room, allowing us to free up valuable floor space and create an additional sitting area beside the newly retiled fireplace. Although the footprint of our home hasn't changed, the improved layout and thoughtful zoning have completely transformed how we live in it. Having this extra sitting room has become such an asset, making the home feel larger, more functional, and perfectly suited to our family's lifestyle.”
